Mission Codename Quintesshhhh! đ€«
âSuch an incredible wine here.â â Decanter
Umm, yeah, but itâs a DEEP COVER, so please be as Qui(et)ntessa about it as you can!
Listen in Ops. Weâre not exactly supposed to be bragging about this, but last year we (you) gobbled up just about 100 cases of the best Cult wine of the year WIA Award winner, 2021 Quintessa. Thanks to that HUGE enthusiasm and support, we have another generous allocation this year!
Another top-secret bit youâre hearing about as a Quintessa insider: this is the best price youâll see of all.
For over thirty years, Agustin and Valeria Huneeus have tended Quintessa as both promise and place â a living commitment to the land. Nestled in eastern Rutherford, the estate is a mosaic of rolling vineyards, oak woodlands, and diverse soils shaped by ancient geology. Each vintage, including the graceful 2022, reflects the harmony between nature and thoughtful stewardship. Quintessa stands as a rare expression of elegance born from balance, patience, and deep respect for its terroir.
Did we mention that it came just 1 shy of perfection at a crazy high 99 points by Decanter?! Yowza! Get this, for ALL thousand of 2022 Napa they reviewed, only 6 wines scored better than this and there, you guessed it, priced a WHOLE LOT more (Lokoya Spring Mountain - $600, Harbison Estate âHorshoeâ - $475, Arrow & Branch To Kalon - $425⊠not to mention Harlan Estate, also 99 points at $2k+!).
Born in 1989, inspired by âQuinta Essenceâ as the 5 elements: earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. And per Wine Advocate itâs pretty obvious that âthis superbly situated estate, off Silverado Trail in eastern Rutherford, is turning out some excellent wines under the leadership of Rebekah Wineburg.â It has been a blue-chip wine since its first vintage, and for good reason.
Full throttle with the first impression, this vintage miraculously dials back on the intensity with a lithe mouthfeel and a floral-mineral lift. Donât get me wrong, thereâs still plenty of Rutherford Dust here, yet the refinement and the complexity are simply mindboggling, and they need to be tasted to be believed. The secret sauce you ask? Although a tiny portion of the final blend, the magical subliminal complexity tiny amounts of CarmĂ©nĂšre, Petit Verdot and Merlot add to it, are undeniable in this haunting wine. As Decanter says, âso much life, so much energy - this is pure class.â
Here today, gone tomorrow. Likely a lot sooner.
99 Points â Decanter âSuch an incredible wine here - one of the stars of the September releases. Smells amazing, cooling blueberries with fragrant blackcurrants, edges of florality - totally inviting scents. Full and filling in the mouth, this is ample with such a layered effect, super vertical and elongated. Tight and a little tense but it really works - such balance between black fruit, dried herbs, high acidity and a profound structure. Refined and beautifully presented. So much life, so much energy - this is pure class. A wine you donât want to put down. Feels hands off despite such concentration and power. Ends salty with sticky liquorice, mint and cooling wet stones. You could definitely drink this now but it will age too! Drink 2028-2045.â
