Mission Codename Cray cray
It’s just another Caymus Day!
With a Second Pour of them vastly popular Napa Cab LITERS here in the Store for the day, to go along with…
That wine equivalent of a big fuzzy wearable blanket we all need at times? That something smothering, warm, soft, and enjoyable - that you might bring out in public? A guilty pleasure of sorts?
If you like Cabs and crave that big, lush, fruit-bomb style, the kind packed with dark, rich, jammy fruit - this one’s for you.
Introducing the third vintage of one of Caymus’ most popular new wines.
A newly conceived concept from the Wagners, that OG family who defined a Cabernet style.
Meet their “California” Cabernet. It might not have the “Napa Valley” designation, but it’s just as serious and endowed as the rest of their lineup. And best of all, you don’t need to fork over a crisp Benjamin to get some. You can receive that unmistakably giving signature Caymus quality for under $50 today - which is basically where no Caymus Cab has been since around 1988!
The third vintage of this wine comes from arguably the best year ever for growing grapes in California. An absolutely picture-perfect year across the state. Even in the early days, The Wine Institute reported that “California vintners are celebrating the 2023 vintage as exceptional. Plentiful winter rains revitalized the soils and encouraged healthy canopies, while cooler temperatures across California in the spring and summer allowed grapes to develop gradually, enjoying extra ripening time. Many vintners predict that the 2023 vintage will be one of the finest in years, producing wines with beautiful flavors, vibrant acidity, and remarkable balance.”
Which matters A LOT, as this Cab was sourced from a variety of sites across California where Cab thrives - from Lake County down to Paso Robles and in between. Looking beyond Napa Valley means fruit prices are lower, the selection is wider, and that translates straight to the quality and the bottom line.
While it doesn’t say “Napa Valley,” it flashes much of the signature Caymus style. Which means it does, of course, hit you with that bellringer of fruit-forward goodness and has the telltale delectability to it. It’s fully loaded with a core of sweet ripe raspberry, steeped with vanilla up front, blackberry, cassis, and a touch of toasty marshmallow, and oak, with some creamy tobacco all loitering out back. Incredibly smooth and seamless on the palate and surprisingly light on its feet for so much concentration.
