“Named after ‘unà gabinelà’ which is a local word for a vineyard hut, this peppery red with striking garrigue fragrance is evolving beautifully. With its firm, fine grainy tannin, it’s well worth decanting to gently soften, and this wine could easily take another three or four years in bottle. With well-judged ripeness sorted in the vineyard from a mosaic of low-yielding plots of around 25 hl/ha, there’s a nuanced cocoa-fringed sweetness around its black olive core thamaturation in 2nd and 3rd fill 225-litre French oak barrels. Expect plenty of plum and cherry fruit as well as lots of unctuousness. Considering its potency, this wine is surprisingly translucent and all the more intriguing for it. Powerful, aromatic and with that background allure of elegant evolution, it’s a compelling bottle with wide, hearty appeal.”

But for real… how?! Seriously how often do you taste a wine that leaves you thinking “WHAT IS THAT?!”?

How can it be so delicious for $45? We don’t know either. It leaves your palate saturated and speechless.

It reminds us of the other great finds from this corner of the south of France. The Clos Saint Sébastien ‘Les Clos’ from Collioure. That legendary Mas Bécha by Charles Perez, the ‘Les Aspres’ from Bergerie du Camps de Nyils, that Ops are still going gaga over on the Hangout.

Same magical belt of hidden gems. If you haven’t ventured outside your comfort zone lately, this is the time.

I think the majority will benefit from cellaring and age gracefully. In addition, the quality here is consistent… Count me a fan, but unfortunately, I don’t believe they’re brought into the US. Nevertheless, keep these guys on your radar as they’re making terrific wines.”
