Mission Codename Come again?
VINTAGE WHITE STONES!
Ahem, as Wine Advocate recently confessed, “It is difficult to avoid hyperbole when discussing the Catena family’s impact on Argentine wine.”
One of the world’s greatest white wines FROM LIBRARY, with 99 points for how much?!
Catena’s ultra-rare, tiny production Parcelas Series present not your average Chardonnays as they consistently rank high amongst the greatest globally… we’re talking epiphany level stuff!
Wine Advocate explains, “This is always a more austere wine than the White Bones, more mineral and restrained, less aromatic, with great balance, a little higher in alcohol and with very good acidity, rounder and more Meursault than Chablis but still with citrus freshness and pungent flavors and always some spice because of the aging in barrel.”
In fact, they have often compared them to the top wines of Burgundy’s most heralded Domaines, calling White Stones “more in the style of Roulot than Coche-Dury.” Keep in mind, current vintages of those legends can easily exceed the $1,000 mark.
And we slip one out at $75. Just unheard of. A handful of cases were available on a first-come basis.
99 Points – James Suckling “This is a fabulous white proving that Argentina can compete with the greatest whites of the world. Complex aromas of stones, lime, lemon, flan, meringue, and flowers. Hints of pie crust. Full body, with mineral, stone and electric acidity. Joyous. Drink now or hold. Made from organically grown grapes.”
