We are very pleased with today’s delicious 2004 Red Lava Syrah and we are so happy that we found this hidden gem for you. It is a very rare occasion that finds a Syrah on our pages, so when we choose one for you, you know it’ll be great.
This wine is very aromatic and very juicy. Soft and round on entry, this food-friendly Syrah has as much complexity on the palate as found on the nose. For all that is going on in this wine, it is surprisingly elegant. That is to say that even though this is a big wine, it is also very plush and easy on the palate.
Enjoy this budget-friendly Syrah year round. We’ll be saving some for fall and winter.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Deep and inky with darkest maroon hues, from the dark core to the dark edging. |
---|---|
Smell: | Lush and layered with deep black cherry juice, plum juice, smoked meats, leather and dark tobacco leaf. These wonderful aromas are followed by jammy dark plum and blackberry compote, toasty oak dusty bakers chocolate. |
Taste: | Plush and round with flavors that almost exactly mimic the complex nose. Tart, dark and juicy, with added flavors that include cured bacon and black cherry preserve. |
Finish: | Very long, dark and rich, with fruit and earthen flavors that dwindle slowly. After a little while, the wine leaves behind a pleasantly dry and chewy feeling that reminds you to take another delicious sip. |
Pairing: | Pair this delicious, dar and very food-friendly beast with a pot roast or a delicious prime rib with plenty of horseradish sauce. |
