Mission Codename Lifted too
“…standing tall and strong…” – Decanter
Like a skyscraper. Secured your Zeitlos Riesling? Sehr gut.
Es ist Spätburgunder-zeit! (intended as Pinot-time in my Germanglish)
Timeless in German, Zeitlos is the brainchild of Chris Jackson, yes, of that Jackson Family, along with his friend and winemaker Fabien Krause. Born and raised in Germany, and making wine there since the age of 16, since 2017, Krause has been working alongside the Seillans at Vérité. When not helping make 100 pointers, his passion lies in achieving the same high standards at Zeitlos.
Even early on, Zeitlos wines were extremely well received in the press, with Wine Advocate raving about the inaugural vintage, “I tasted the Zeitlos wines during a visit to Verité in the spring of 2022 with Chris Jackson, Pierre Seillan, and his daughter, Hélène. Zeitlos proprietor and winemaker Fabian Krause is also the Brand Winemaker at Verité.”
Sealift, as the name suggests, sits on a seabed lifted from the Pacific Ocean in geological time to about 1,200 feet in elevation. It sits near the Andreson Valley border, overlooking the west, hence within the newly crowned “true” West Sonoma Coast appellation near the quaint town of Annapolis. It’s really far out there, and that you can smell and taste in this exotic take on cool climate Pinot Noir.
There were even fewer of these than the brilliant Riesling counterpart.
96 Points – Decanter “Bright, red candied fruit proliferates on the nose, and candied red fruit persists on the palate, too. It’s full-bodied and playful while being both serious and irreverent. The vines grow on rugged terrain and in very windy conditions at the Sealift vineyard just south of the Mendocino County border at 400m above sea level. The acidity is impressive, standing tall and strong to retain a fresh profile that will last the wine for years. Drink 2024-2033.”
