What should one do in the presence of a great Margaux only $41?! Have you checked out yet?

While that sounds like “are we there yet” backseat noise, it’s a true statement. Heck, the 1st growth that names the appellation is trending at over $1,000 per bottle today!

Where exactly are we with the terroir of this wine? The venerable aforementioned Château Margaux is just 8 minutes away. Immediate neighbors include Brane Cantenac and Giscours. So basically, it’s money-wine territory. Sure at the original release price of $65, this was already a crazy good deal, but at $41 it is a smart purchase you will be very, very happy with.

So, then what’s the catch you ask? Just about 15 cases are all we could snag. And there are no reviews on this rarely-seen second wine. In 2016 it was their Grand Vin that got all the buzz, and yet the clues on what to expect abound: “So fine and polished. Subtle. Hard not to drink now.” says James Suckling for instance. With Vinous calling it “very Margaux… a delicious d’Angludet to jump on, considering no 2017 was produced.”

Wine Advocate has the final word though, calling the 2016 d’Angludet “a wine of impressive style and character… it’s the finest wine I’ve ever tasted from this Margaux property.” with an earlier barrel impression raving about “this Margaux property’s consistent sense of approachability. It sounds banal, but there is something instantly likable about this d’Angludet. It is not an extravagant Margaux, however, there is enchanting purity and harmony. It’s just the charm…”
