Mission Codename Nice legs!
“Nestled in the Mayacamas Mountains just east of the town of Sonoma, the Moon Mountain District is one of the most exciting emerging appellations in California.” - Vinous
Avast, me hearties! At 65% OFF - this be a steal the century!
Okay – enough of the pirate speak (for now!).
If you’re like us, ye love your Cab. And you’re always on the lookout for something inky black, robust, firm, and complex. For UNDER $40, today only, this delivers all that and so much more!
We often say, if you want to find the deals in wine country, you have to follow the passion-projects of talented winemakers.
Jambe de Bois is the personal label of up-and-coming powerhouse Danielle Langlois and her husband Dan. Up until last year, Danielle’s day job was crafting 95-99 Point powerhouses at Lasseter, alongside consulting oenologist Tony Biagi, while her husband worked with famous vineyard manager Phil Coturri.
Jeb Dunnuck recently called this out, “It’s also important to note that while many wineries have incredible consulting members to bolster their teams, there are also winemakers behind them who carry the vision and day-to-day operations and don’t get enough credit for their worth… top of mind are Danielle Langlois at Lasseter and her own label Jambe de Bois.”
Reading this made us curious. So, we texted Biagi. “Oh, she’s great!!! Talented.”
And boy does that show when you pop the cork! Pouring the opaque purple of a nighttime storm on the horizon, the wine pops with powerful, complex flashes of plum jam, blackberry compote, black licorice, and violets. Full bodied but not weighty, it’s a galleon that glides effortlessly across the palate, pristinely balanced and bold.
It is a perfect example of why wine critics and our Agents are so bullish on the region of Moon Mountain. On the other side of the county line from Mount Veeder, it sits in a rain shadow that make the wines even more powerful and concentrated than its more famous neighbor. And it’s home to some of Sonoma’s top terroir. As Vinous explains, “These hillside vineyards offer an intriguing mix of the old and the new, a melting pot of historic vineyards, established players and a generation of younger winemakers who are bringing their energy and enthusiasm to these sites.”
At this point, yarrr might be asking why the Pirate speak? Well… ‘Jambe de Bois’ is French for ‘wooden leg’, the nom de guerre of Danielle’s pirate ancestor and intrepid explorer that inspires her thirst for new horizons.
And also, shout out to our dear Agent Crush, who recently turned 50, throwing himself an epic bash a HQ turning it into a Pirate themed bar complete with cannons and a ship.
May your cork be loose and your compass remain true!

93.5 Points - Ken’s Wine Guide “This midnight purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Jambe de Bois opens with a cassis and black olive bouquet with hints of black plum and moist pipe tobacco. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, plush, and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a layered blend of mild cassis and graphite with notes of cedar and black plum. We also detected hints of tobacco, green olive, blackberry, and black tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate tannins linger and last for a while.”
92 Points – Jeb Dunnuck “The first of three vintages tasted together from winemaker Danielle Langlois, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Moon Mountain District was raised in 90% new oak for 18 months and pours an inky red/black hue. Brooding and concentrated aromas of black plum, licorice, lavender oil, and tarry earth emerge from the glass. Ripe and full-bodied, without excess weight, it offers ripe tannins and great lift on the finish. A very well-balanced wine, it should evolve nicely over the coming 8-10 years. Drink 2023-2033.”
