Mission Codename Promised land
The Howell Cab inventory is dwindling dangerously close to zero, but we saw that coming and lined up one more steal from Metzger lineup.
Because if you’re a geneticist decoding the genome, you surely want to explore perfecting more than one varietal.
Which brings us to this beautiful single vineyard Pinot Noir at OVER 60% OFF!
Same winemaker. Different varietal. Same obsession with the kind of quality that makes you check the price tag twice.
Melissa Apter Castro was named “One of Napa’s 7 Most Exciting Winemakers” by napavalley.com. The Antinori trained winemaker spent time in Tuscany before ending up at Duckhorn and then Paul Hobbs.
Meet the fruit source that makes winemakers do the happy dance: Terra de Promissio. (Latin for Land of Promise). And this vineyard has kept every single one of them.
Williams Selyem. Kosta Browne. Domaine Della. Gary Farrell. Waypoint. Flowers. Senses. The Calling. MacRostie. Some of the most celebrated names in California Pinot have been quietly relying on this fruit for twenty years. Kosta Browne even took Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year using Terra de Promissio fruit in their Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. That’s not a coincidence. That’s a fruit source and one that has earned over 20 scores of 90+ since its very first harvest in 2005.
What makes it special? Two words: Petaluma Gap. A natural wind tunnel carved through the coastal mountains with cold Pacific air and fog funneling straight into the vines every single day. Relentless, punishing, and absolutely perfect for Pinot Smaller berries. Thicker skins. Lower alcohol. Higher acidity. More intensity. The Pinot Noir Holy Trinity.
Every wine has a story. This one just happens to be true. A husband and wife ran out of money before their vineyard ever produced a single grape. The wife called her dad in Russia. Vadim Zarr, son of a WWII pilot. He had one response: “Stop crying. If I can drive a Soviet tank, I can drive an American tractor.”
Sunup to sundown. Seven days a week. Three years straight. He saved the vineyard with his bare hands, and they named it Terra de Promissio. The Promised Land. He kept every one of them.
We tasted this Pinot Noir as a team, as always. The room went quiet. Then everyone reached for more UNANIMOUS WIN …rarely does that happen!
Dried raspberry, red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, whisper of minerality. Aromas are so inviting that you almost don’t want to stop smelling your glass. And when you do? No use of brain muscles - just DAMN. THAT’S TASTY!! Vibrant, structured, playful acidity, fine tannins, smooth finish that lingers. 20% whole cluster. 65% new French oak and aged for 15 months. We finished the bottle fast. 😀
No wonder for a previous vintage Decanter said that “it shows its wild provenance.”
At just $29, it punches way above its price tag! Drinks like a $75 wine with big energy! It’s a cool climate Pinot Noir doing exactly what it was born to do… BE YUMMY!!
The only question now is how many bottles can you fit in your locker?
