2010 Sauvignon Blanc
California: Napa Valley
State of Bliss
This wine will sell out. Please act quickly.
Very highly recommended, today’s wine is the pinnacle of California Sauvignon Blanc. In fact, we’d say that it beats most others that we’ve tried. This best-of-all-worlds wine is pure New Zealand meets Loire - in the Napa Valley.
Today’s beautifully balanced 2010 Mantra Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing and delicious treat that we just cannot get enough of! In fact, we’ll be stocking our personal Spy cellars with an ample supply for our own spring and summer enjoyment.
Enjoy this wonderful wine all on its own, as a refreshing afternoon delight, or with a wide variety of foods. We’ll be serving ours outside on the deck. With friends. And great meals.
Fine light golden hues from core to glinting edge.
This wine is very full on the nose, with aromas that balance between fruit, earth and herb. Primary aromas of citrus, gooseberry, oil of orange flower, grapefruit skin, subtle fresh salad herbs and light cracked clay soil. Subtle anise at the very end adds a lovely punctuation.
Lovely tart citrus melds with white peach, dried apricot, Meyer lemon, subtle fresh herbs, young pineapple, and subtle perfectly-ripe kiwi.
Very long and zesty-tart with flavors that fade very slowly. Zippy flavors linger longest at the back of the palate.
Enjoy this brightly delicious wine on a sunny afternoon with barbecued oysters or stuffed pablano peppers.
What the Winery Says
Our 2010 Napa Sauvignon Blanc exhibits ripe fruit characteristics of passion fruit, guava, and lemon zest. The grapes were harvested at the optimal time for Sauvignon Blanc to maintain crispness due to appropriate levels of tartaric and malic acid content. In addition, the malic acid naturally found in the grapes can be converted to lactic acid, making a wine appear “softer” on the palate. We inhibit this process by not inoculating the wine with a special bacteria frequently used for conversion. We hope you enjoy the fresh crisp flavor of the 2010 Mantra Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley.
About the Winery
Mike and Lorene Kuimelis have been growing reserve designate grapes for noted wineries in the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys of Sonoma County since the late 1970’s with roughly eighty acres under vine. They passed their enthusiasm and knowledge of wine and vineyards on to their son Mike Jr. who started the next chapter of this story by producing the first wines under the Mantra label.
The origin of Mantra Wines began with a single barrel of wine made by Mike Jr. in a garage from Mike Sr.’s grapes – one barrel led to two barrels and so forth until the popularity of the wine outpaced it’s production. At this point Mike made a decision to abandon his applications to medical school and made a business of making wine full time.
Mantra Wines is a collaborative effort between father and son – Mike Sr. grows the grapes and Mike Jr. makes the wines and runs the day-to-day operations of the small winery with his wife Dez. Our first commercial release was in 2000 with just a few hundred cases of Cabernet Sauvignon – Mantra is now distributed in over 15 states and Canada. True to our roots – we remain a boutique winery that produces hand-crafted wines of limited production levels but no longer made in the garage.
