Mission Codename MSM890
“Perhaps the greatest compliment I could confer on Bruno Giacosa is that there are no wines in the world I buy without tasting them first, except for those of his.” – Robert Parker
Giacosa is without a doubt one of the most important winemakers in the modern history of Piemonte. “His contributions to Italian wine and his beloved Piedmont are beyond measure,” as Robert Parker attests. Wine Spectator adds, “Bruno Giacosa, one of the greatest winemakers of Italy’s Piedmont region… he could never be labeled a traditionalist or modernist. He was simply Bruno Giacosa, the Maestro, making ethereal wines vintage after vintage that were highly sought around the world.”
Beginning his six-decade-long career in a region that traditionally blended fruit from different sites, the Wine Advocate emphasized how, “Bruno Giacosa was among the first visionaries to understand the importance of the Langhe cru, and the unique expressions that are obtained with a single-vineyard winemaking philosophy.”
Asili is one of Giacosa’s two Crus in his hometown. Wine Advocate explains that “The Rabajà Cru sometimes shows a harder edge with more mineral definition. Asili, in comparison, offers gorgeous intensity and profound depth.”
This stuff is very, VERY hard to get in any decent quantity, by the way. Ask the good folks at Booze City!
Then what Jeb Dunnuck said really matters here too: “The team will not produce a 2022 Riserva release, and the 2022 Barbaresco Asili will be the only release from Asili.”
We are going to get in trouble for this insanely low price, but you all are worth it… over and out.
98 Points – James Sucking “Very classy and perfumed, with ripe strawberries, spice, cedar, sandalwood and iron shavings that follow through to a medium body with extremely long and pointed tannins that go on and on. Lightly chewy at the end. Racy Asili. Hard not to drink now. Best after 2029.”
