OPS! This is BIG! Not only did Mr. Pott, one of the greatest winemakers walking the planet, allocate one of his very own wines to us, but he also agreed to be the GUEST OF HONOR during our Midsummer Marathon. We are BLESSED by the Original Ganster!

Pott needs no introduction. His wines, be it his own label or others he makes, sell out with little effort year in and year out. He is not capable of making anything less than the extraordinary, no matter what challenges great winemakers may face. Wine Advocate explains, “This is one winery where the 2022s from Napa stand comfortably next to the 2021s on one side and the 2023s on the other, with no letdown in terms of quality, no doubt because of the generally cooler sites that Pott draws from. While some of the wines do show up at retail from time to time, the most reliable way to secure these wines is through the winery’s mailing list.”

OR on Wine Spies today at a price we will NEVER get a shot at a wine like this EVER again. It’s so reasonable for a Pott masterpiece that we blush even thinking about it.

Did we mention STAGECOACH yet? That tenderloin of a vineyard that bridges Pritchard Hill with Atlas Peak! Where all grapes planted play along to the same symphony, from the bass tones of Cabernet to the bright variations on Châteauneuf-du-Pape here that unabashedly wears a Napa cape to soar like a Grenache superhero. Only Pott can make this happen, that we know.

95 Points – International Wine Report “The 2022 ‘Original Gangster’ is 100% Grenache sourced from the Stagecoach Vineyard. It opens to a pretty bouquet driven by vibrant aromas of ripe cherries, luscious raspberries, and juicy strawberries, beautifully complemented by a hint of lavender. Subtle notes of savory herbs and spices add even further complexity. On the palate, the wine presents a medium body with a velvety texture that feels luxurious and soft. Its ripe and sweet fruit flavors are seamlessly integrated, creating a harmonious profile that is both refreshing and balanced. The refined acidity enhances the wine’s freshness, while the overall finesse is evident in each sip. This Grenache is a charming and elegant wine is drinking beautifully today, but should also evolve nicely over the course of the next decade. Drink 2025-2035.”

94 Points – Jeb Dunnuck “As with the 2021, this hails from the Stagecoach Vineyard on Pritchard Hill and is all varietal. Red and black fruits, peppery spice, underbrush, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2022 Grenache Original Gangster. Medium to full-bodied and supple on the palate, it shows impressive concentration and was aged in used barrels. This is beautiful stuff. Drink over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2035.”
