You’ve probably never heard of Forthright. Neither had we. Two guys. A cave. No employees. No consultants. Patrick McEvoy and Rafer Caudill make every drop themselves. Their hands touch every barrel. DEBUT first Cabernet vintage. And then this happened..they submitted their wine to a BLIND REVIEW…The results??

They walked away with 96 Points, Double Gold, Cabernet Sauvignon of the Year AND Wine of the Year. 🤯 Oh and a Silver at the Sommeliers Choice Awards for good measure. We cannot wait to watch the progression of these guys! Blind tastings have a history in Napa. 1976, a little French panel thought they were judging the best wines in the world. California walked away with the trophy. In 2016, Mira did it again, entering their Schweizer Cab in a private blind against Petrus, Haut-Brion, Screaming Eagle and Latour. The mirror doesn’t lie. Blind tastings never do either and that’s honest RAW TRUTH!!

The fruit sources, well they are quite secretive about their sources, but it can’t be that hard to figure out…. Calistoga AVA. Northernmost Napa. Volcanic soils, gravelly fans. Legendary neighborhood. Chateau Montelena. Eisele. Maybach. Realm. One simply cannot go wrong with Cab coming from these parts.

It bursts from the glass with a rush of black fruit, smoke, licorice, graphite, and tar. All the elements flow together gracefully towards an opulent and fleshy finish. There is plenty of fine tannin left to support the fruit, suggesting it will drink well for another decade or so. We especially liked the way it keeps growing in the glass. A fabulous Cab, with the potential to cellar handsomely for another decade, while open knit enough to pair tonight with your favorite cut. The finish is LONG. This is a Cab built for the next decade and then some. Cellar the rest and thank yourself in 2035. Not going to lie, a few of us bought extra for our own lockers.
