Mission Codename For a 250th from 1,500'
“It comes bounding out with eager-to-please notes…” – The Wine Palate
That’s befittingly Grand Napa for you, as we continue to celebrate 250 years of independence!
With double 94 points and NEARLY 70% OFF layered in, this has all the look and feel of truly majestic fireworks no matter how much we saw yesterday. No doubt, your wallet will thank you.
Hear me out: for the $44 we got this down to, it has NO COMPETITION on Mt. Veeder. On CellarTracker, there are only 6 others from this heralded appellation in this vintage, and they all are in the $125-$500 a bottle range, from the likes of Pulido-Walker, Alpha Omega, and Lokoya.
We basically cannot find another Veeder Cab BELOW $100 that’s anywhere nearly as good as this one.
Grand Napa has been churning out some rock-solid wines from their outpost in Rutherford, just on the edge of Inglenook Estate. With neighbors like Scarecrow, Quintessa, or Inglenook, you have a lot to live up to, and this makes a strong case that they’re moving on up.
In the glass, it’s fuller-bodied, while remaining gently extracted. There are rich red and black fruits, with lifted aromatics and brightness that reflect the cool diurnal shifts at 1,500’ elevation on the Mayacamas. Currant, cassis, and blackberry mix with cacao nibs and vanilla into a soft and seamless gradient of flavor that carries into a nice long finish.
The only thing not GRAND about it is the 3 barrels that remain for the entire planet, act fast.
94 Points – The Wine Independent “Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder starts with notes of dried Provence herbs, tilled soil, and fresh black plums slowly emerging from the glass, giving way to a core of red currant jelly, graphite, and Morello cherries. The medium- to full-bodied palate is tightly wound with crunchy red and black fruit layers, supported by grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with a cheeky herbal lift. Drink 2026-2042.”
94 Points – The Wine Palate “The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder has a deep garnet-purple color. It comes bounding out with eager-to-please notes of plum preserves, blackberry pie, and dried mint, followed by hints of sandalwood, unsmoked cigars, and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of mint-laced stewed black fruits, supported by lightly chewy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing on a spicy note. Drink 2026-2042.”
