Mission Codename Quaffer duty
“A charming, smooth and easy-sipping white.” – James Suckling
A reserve bottling of Barrel Fermented Pinot Gris from Oregon’s Columbia Gorge at $20.
20 cases is all we got. Get it while you can!
This is the Estate Reserve, all estate fruit from a tiny half-acre plot on Phelps Creek’s Hood River Valley property on the Oregon side, the smallest planting on the estate, barrel fermented in neutral French oak for a pretty elegance and texture.
The house style comes from an unlikely place for an Oregon white. Consulting winemaker Alexandrine Roy, yes, that Roy, of Domaine Marc Roy, is a fourth-gen Burgundian, running the family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin while advising Phelps Creek since 2007. The hands actually on this bottle belong to current Winemaker Lauren O’Brien, who took over the same year this wine was picked, after seven years as an Enologist at K Vintners in Walla Walla.
A pale straw pour that opens with soft green pear and melon. Beautiful roundness in the body, with crisp acidity pulling it all together. Dry, crisp, and quietly addictive, a perfect summer sipper by itself OR great with a young Gruyère, Comté, or Havarti.🧀 A quick crudité platter with a whipped goat cheese or honey thyme ricotta dip would also be great! Plays nicely with some grilled trout 🐟 on the barbie too!
Whether you’re drinking this solo or building out a whole spread to sip and nosh your way through the afternoon, get it while you can. At this price, it’s sure to go!
Vinous “The 2023 Pinot Gris Estate Reserve opens with a rich blend of crushed oyster shells, white smoke and apricots. Silken textures and mineral-infused orchard fruits sweep across the palate, guided by brisk acidity. A subtle twang of sour citrus punctuates the experience as the 2023 Pinot Gris Estate Reserve leaves a thrust of savory herbs to linger. Drink 2025-2028.”
James Suckling “A charming, smooth and easy-sipping white that also has a good crisp texture in the finish to lift it. Tastes slightly sweet, or at least generous and ripe, offering honeydew melon and Anjou pear flavors with lime zest accents. Drink now.”
