Sangiacomo AND Sojourn on the same label? Cram those lockers!

And not just this Chardonnay, but also the Pinot counterpart is here today too, while they last, with the affirmation of 95 and 96 points from International Wine Report. Still reading?

For those who don’t know Sojourn (it’s okay, we’ve got you), winemaker Erich Bradley got his start at Arrowood and went on to make wine for Hop Kiln as well as Audelssa in Glen Ellen. He credits both Richard Arrowood and David Ramey as his mentors. His right-hand Randy Bennett cut his teeth working with Thomas Brown and Mike Smith in the caves of Nicholson Ranch, where they make Schrader Cellars, Rivers-Marie, Myriad Cellars, Tamber Bey, and (of course) Nicholson Ranch.

The Sojourn Sangiacomo Chardonnay and Pinot share similar plots. The Chardonnay blends roughly 30-year-old Roberts Road blocks planted to Clone 95 with Vella Ranch’s Old Wente Clone that gives this a signature Sangiacomo profile, perfumed and borderline wild with an earthy mineral tinge from the tiny clusters and rock-bottom yields that combine finesse with complexity in the glass. Layers and layers of citrus and stone fruits give way to mild oak spice, mostly Madagascar vanilla, and Meursault-like toasty hazelnut nuances. Did somebody say bacon-wrapped scallop skewers just hit the grill? What time???

95 Points – International Wine Report “About 30% of the Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay doesn’t see malolactic fermentation, which aids in the lifted acidity across the tongue. Aged in 30% new French oak, it sports scrumptious aromas and flavors of ripe honey crisp apples, Meyer lemon zest, dried pineapple, toasted almonds, and sweet clove. It finishes with a rich, lush, and creamy aspect on the back palate. Drink 2024-2032.”

94 Points – Owen Bargreen “The Sangiacomo Vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The palate is soft and rich with great flavor density and weight. Rich Meyer lemon cream combines with toasted hazelnut, buttered French bread and shades of Pink Lady apple on the palate. Rich and polished, this is delicious wine that is already drinking beautifully. Drink 2024-2032.”

94 Points – Wine Enthusiast “The nose of this richer-styled Chardonnay displays intriguing aromas of Bananas Foster and crème brûlée before morphing towards a Key lime and graham cracker crust energy on the palate. A few years in the cellar should round this out quite nicely. Drink 2027-2035.”
