Mission Codename Sangio-VERY Yes đ
Red Cherry Tuscan Galore! Our team fell super hard in love with this wine!
Hereâs the thing. The supplier is a bit sensitive about our price, so youâll only find it in our store. And because this is a 2019, from a near perfect vintage in Chianti Classico, that price is even harder to believe. It was released at $50. Unfortunately after tariffs, itâs closer to $60 to $65 today. $35 here. đˇ A super duper over achiever on QPR (quality to price ratio), and cellar worthy too!!
The Proof?? Wine Spectator rated the 2019 Tuscan vintage 95 Points calling it an âExceptional Yearâ We agree, even in the lower priced tiers we are seeing exceptional over achievers and this wine is a perfect example of it.
Super Pure, Super Elegant and Super Tasty! If you see 2019s from Tuscany elsewhere, donât pass them up⌠though weâre not sure youâll find this kind of purity.đđ
Bindi Sergardi has 23 generations of winemaking. When youâve been at it that long, youâd better be great at what you do! And they most certainly are.
This wine is named for Calidonia Sergardi, whose marriage to Girolamo Bindi joined the two families whose names are still on the label. Today Alessandra Casini Bindi Sergardi runs the estate. (Trivia Fun) âŚFamily rule: none of the five kids could join the business until theyâd worked three years somewhere else.
The vines grow on hard Alberese limestone and flaky Galestro in unusually rocky soil on the Mocenni estate, near Siena from Vigna della signora Chiara, Finocchi, Perone vineyards. Critic Jamie Goode notes that bony Alberese soils tend to give wines backbone and real tension. The family credits that Alberese and Galestro mix for this wineâs freshness and silky tannins. Silk in your glass?? When you read our tasting note, you will see the push and pull we fell in love withâŚSeamless Elegance.
Bright red cherry from the first sip, like sun-kissed fruit picked fresh at a U-Pick farm. đ It put so many smiles on our faces. Right behind all that fruit are wisps of orange peel that intertwines with blackberry fruit, more ripe cherries, some mineral earth, with a structured spine and then it gets graceful on you. The texture turns to silk, with a firm Tuscan backbone underneath that lets you know it can ageâŚor sends you straight back to your delicious meal.
We were BLOWN AWAY at $35, with so many cellaring years ahead. This is one of those wines, you stock up on! Life is too short to live it with wine regrets.
95 Points - Wine Anorak âTenuta Mocenni Calidonia Chianti Classico Riserva 2019 This is taut and quite complex with restrained cherry and berry fruits as well as good structure. Nice purity, with some elegance to the fruit, and good structure. Such weightlessness on the palate, despite the concentration and structure. Lovely balance and focus, and this should age effortlessly.â
94 Points - Wine Align, John Szabo MS âCalidonia is produced from a single parcel called Vigna della Signora Chiara t some of the highest elevations of the Mocenni estate. The 2019 is still quite tightly wound on the nose, yet with simmering underlying complexity waiting to emerge. On the palate it displays the typical Mocenni firmness and structure, those tightly wound, marly-limestones (Alberese and Sillano formation). Length and depth are exceptional in the category; love the finesse and elegance on offer.â
