What’s the matter, Katz got your tongue?
This is The Remedy. Like a cure to all your problems. Or shall we say, for those who can relate, this is The Cure singing Friday I’m in Love?
Where do we begin? Does Jesse Katz even need an intro as the definitive prodigal winemaker?
Per Wine Enthusiast, Katz did “stints in Bordeaux (Pétrus), Argentina (Viña Cobos, Bodega Noemia), and Napa Valley (Screaming Eagle, Robert Foley) before choosing Sonoma County to launch his own brands, Aperture and Devil Proof”. That resume won him Winemaker of the Year in 2025.

That’s right.
Per Forbes, “Jesse Katz, the cofounder of luxury wine company The Setting Wines, sold a single bottle for a record $1 million at a charity auction in 2021 and was named Winemaker of the Year last month by Wine Enthusiast. It was another feather in the cap for Katz who has racked up perfect scores for 41 of his wines.”
And Vinous elaborates on “Another of Jesse Katz’s projects, The Setting ventures into Napa Valley and Oregon, as well as the usual suspects of sites Katz typically deals with in Sonoma County. The wines are done in Katz’s typical style—rich, lusciously textured and impeccably coiffed.”

98 Points – Jeb Dunnuck “The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley comes from one of the coldest sites from which they farm Cabernet Sauvignon. A dark red color, the wine is forward with blue-fruited highlights and shining with notes of juniper, pine, violets, forest floor, and fresh herbs. It’s long, elegant, and focused on the palate, with a more linear feel, an even plushness of tannins, and redcurrants, cassis, and vanilla shining through to the long finish. Drink 2025-2050.”
97 Points, Editors’ Choice – Wine Enthusiast “Generous aromas of crushed raspberry, plum compote, cocoa and crushed herbs explode on the nose of this Cabernet. The palate displays rich, supple tannin balanced by juicy acidity and flavors of cherry gastrique, raspberry liqueur, graphite and herb mélange that dance and dart across the long finish. Delicious now, this will benefit from some time in the cellar.”
