Mission Codename Moonlighting
Wee that was fun!! Its time for Double Agent Action. Random Ridge is a winery you all know and have come to love, because we haven’t skipped a vintage with him since we started back in 2007! That’s some serious staying power. And the reason? YOU.
Yes, hands down, great wines, great value too! Seriously… Moon Mountain Sangiovese at $60 SRP, just $25 today, (plus, we also have his Mt.Veeder Reserve Cab featured today too…made only 4 times).
BUT if you don’t know, here’s the short version: Bill Hawley is just a plain old, cool ass dude, and Random Ridge is a true insiders’, old school, locals only type winery. He even built his own house out of recycled lumber, and has been quietly cranking out killer wines ever since! His estate and winery is up on Mount Veeder. So he knows how Mountain fruit behaves. This wine he sourced from the Moon Mountain District.
Moon Mountain District typically grows Cabernet and Syrah and the region is known to produce intensely flavored, rich and volcanic, muscular reds. Sangiovese barely exists there, until back in the 90s, before it was even an AVA, Lorenzo Petroni brought in the Sangiovese Grosso clone from Tuscany and planted it on his Sonoma hillside estate. Success, and the rest is history. This wine is made from the very same Petroni Estate vineyards and all farmed organically too!
Open this bottle and you get two wines in one glass. A party and fun flava ride! 😎 We were stoked with it! Old world earthy up front: black cherry, cherry bark, cedar, dried orange peel, a touch of black pepper. Then it turns bright: cranberry, wild strawberry, young cherry, a whisper of white pepper. Give it a few minutes and it settles into sweet cherry, chocolate, and crushed stone, tannins building through the middle and finish. Do pour some in a glass and give it some generous swirls.
Drink me with your Ooni fired pizza 🍕, roast chicken with herbes de Provence 🍗, sausage and peppers (not too spicy), caponata over polenta 🍆🧅, mujadara or spiced lentils, even a grilled salmon with a berry glaze (Sangiovese’s acid handles fattier fish better than you’d expect).
$25 a bottle. Stock your locker before this charming steal is gone!
