Among his big accomplishments are making a Wine Spectator #1 Wine of the Year and countless high scores across all press. He recently took on Pine Ridge, so this 2023 is only his third vintage. And if this wine is any indicator, the future is VERY bright.

Stags Leap District, for those who need an AVA refresher is the appellation that gave us the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Pine Ridge Vineyards, founded in 1978 was instrumental in establishing this AVA within the Napa Valley.

2023 in Napa? Winemakers everywhere are calling it a once in a decade vintage. Long growing season, no heat spikes, extended hang time. It just doesn’t get better than that! All Estate fruit….finger roll…tap, tap, and just pure greatness…as usual.

On the nose, some minerality leads the charge with graphite and slate first, quickly following with cassis, black cherry, huckleberry, and berry compote. Hints of violets and cocoa. Diving into this just full bodied, but structured and balanced wine, it is a delight, much matching the nose. There is an additional kick at the core of concentrated currants and streaks of boysenberry. Polished tannins carry all the way through to a juicy black cherry finish with just enough grip left to remind you this thing has a long life ahead.
