Yup. You may come to the same conclusion we did. Ron McGinnis may just be the ‘Most Interesting Man in the World’.

Truthfully, there isn’t much information about Ron or this wine available, even to us Spies. But once we tried this full-bodied, perfectly polished Cabernet, we were sent on a deep dive.

That revealed a name we do know: Kian Tavakoli. After graduating at U.C. Davis he started at the top, landing at Opus One where he learned from the great Michael Sillacci, later honing his craft for a decade making wine at Clos du Val. Today, he is a hired gun, and one of the best in the Valley – literally voted one of the ‘3 Top Winemakers in Napa Valley’ by local Napa Life magazine. Two years in a row!

Also, vintage is equally brilliant. As Vinous raves, “Napa Valley enjoyed an extraordinary vintage in 2016. When we popped the cork, we found that ten years on this wine is absolutely singing. Pouring a lively purple ruby color, it fills the air with boysenberry and blackberry, mocha, vanilla, and toast aromas with a touch of gravely earthiness. Full-bodied, dense, and luscious, the palate is full of fruit, chocolate, and a touch of tobacco, all supported by velour tannins. Spectacular now, but with enough stuffing to go another five to seven years.
