2005 Petite Verdot
California: Napa Valley
Kicks like a mule
Delicious and lush, this wine is everything that we’d expect from a Petit Verdot from our friends at Romeo Vineyards. Their 2005 Sempre Vive Petit Verdot is rich, bold and satisfying. Aromatics are through the roof and big flavors satisfy on so many levels.
Decant for at least 30 minutes, or torture it in your glass by swirling it vigorously. It takes a little while to wake up - and for some of the heat to blow off - but when it does, this very highly recommended wine kicks like a mule.
This is a big wine that begs to be enjoyed with something equally big. A filet mignon or even a fatty porterhouse would be fantastic.
Enjoy now through 2015.
Deepest dark garnet hues with dark ruby edges. Slightly opaque at the heart of the wine, with slightly darker hues in the very center.
Lush and fragrant with distinctive violet, mixed berry compote, leather, tobacco and dusty bramble. As the wine breathes, it really comes alive, releasing additional aromas of braised fig, black tea and subtle smoked meats.
As rich and complex on the palate as it is on the nose; all of the aromas are reflected on the palate. Add to these a delicious grilled steak with caramelized onions, dried mushroom and green peppercorn.
Extremely long and packed with bold flavor that lingers forever. At the tail end, the mouth succumbs to a dryness that makes you smack your lips.
Enjoy this wine with a perfectly grilled filet mignon with cracked pepper.
