Mission Briefing

Codename:

The Donkey King

We were really surprised by today’s Rocland Estate Family Winery 2009 Royal Ass Kisser. When we were offered this wine with a funny name, we expected something quite different from the wine inside the bottle. This delicious Grenache is no joke, and our tasting panel was very impressed; this wine delivers great value.

Loaded with fruit, floral and spice notes, this low-priced Aussie Grenache is really a delight to enjoy. Enjoy it all on its own or with a variety of meals. This is a very flexible wine that would go with many dishes - from pizza to burgers or pork dishes, zesty pasta or even your favorite backyard BBQ.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Vivid, beautiful garnet through and through, just slightly opaque at its core. The wine transitions to a slightly lighter edge.

Smell:

Leads with flavors of red raspberry and candied cherry, followed by notes of allspice, pink peppercorn, soft leather, rose hips, and just a touch of hibiscus.

Taste:

Juicy and lush on the palate, with deep fruit flavors of cranberry and raspberry leading the way. Clear and distinct notes of lavender, warm baking spice, and fresh cedar round out the flavor profile.

Finish:

Light, refreshing, and surprisingly refined, this is a very easy drinking wine. Juicy tangerine and a touch of clove linger at the tip of the tongue on the finish.

Pairing:

This wine is perfect for a meal of homemade pizza topped with roasted eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella.
