Mission Briefing

Codename:

Smoke and Earth

Today’s Bodega Hinojosa 2009 H Malbec is an extraordinarily delicious wine that we discovered on a recent international mission of intrigue.

Incredibly smooth, today’s wine benefited greatly from some additional bottle aging. This has resulted in a wine that’s far softer, and far more appealing, than many young Malbecs. Decant or give this wine a hearty swirl, and you’ll be rewarded with a supple, more elegant, but nonetheless flavorful, drinking experience.

Cheers!

Tasting Profile

Look:

Very deep, dark scarlet at its heart, with a pretty ruby ring at the very edge.

Smell:

Charming aromatics of blackberry and dark plum are joined by a strong - and quite lovely - purple flower component. These are, in turn, joined by hints of fresh forest floor, smoky sandalwood, tobacco leaf, and cracked black peppercorn.

Taste:

Deep and bold flavors of stewed dark fruit greet you initially, highlighted by black cherry, dark plum, and boysenberry. These flavors mingle with dark chocolate, espresso bean, aged saddle leather, and notes of violet that are hinted at in the nose.

Finish:

Very smooth and supple on the palate, with lush and well rounded flavors.

Pairing:

Slowly braised pork shoulder, tossed in a light barbecue sauce, and served on a fresh potato roll.
