Leviathan Wine Co.
2010 California Red Wine
Today’s Leviathan Wine Co. 2010 California Red Wine is a dark and foreboding monster of a California wine. This delicious, complex wine is a wonderful blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 21% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Leviathan is a winery to watch. Each successive vintage from this emerging winery is better and better. Today’s wine is great and we look forward to more greatness in the years to come.
Robert Parker calls the wine, ”..a lovely, seductive, fleshy wine offering lots of red and black currants, spring flowers and spice box. It is an interesting blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc that should drink well for 10-15 years.”
We offer you this wonderful wine - and we encourage you to get your tentacles on some - before our sale ends.
Deep, dark, foreboding scarlet at its heart, with an ever so slight reddening at the very edge.
Refined and very elegant on the nose, with fresh blackberry, boysenberry, and raspberry mingling with cedarwood, sweet tobacco leaf, espresso bean, clove, and black pepper spice.
A bold yet well balanced wine, with fruity notes of red and black currant, candied cherry, and fresh blueberry laid overtop sweet tobacco leaf, sweet oak, anise, clove, cocoa powder, and just a hint of walnut.
Robust, lush, and absolutely delicious, the finish is long and lasting, with the dark fruit lingering until the very end, with just a hint of lavender petals at the finale.
A pan seared lamb chop, seasoned with fresh oregano and garlic, served with sauted onions and the drippings from the pan drizzled overtop.
What the Winery Says
Ever the enigmatic beast, our 2010 Leviathan is trolling in deep, familiar waters. Harkening back to previous vintages, expressions of dark cherry, blueberry and blackberry exude from the glass. Brambly fruits combine with hints of chocolate malt, crème brûlée, cigar box, dried herbs and espresso. Its tentacles reach from the glass and draw you in from the first encounter. Broad shouldered and brawny but with laser precision, the 2010 vintage showcases the best of California. Allow yourself to be gathered by the seine of this cryptic creature, and embark on a nautical adventure solo or en masse!
91 Point Review - Wine Spectator A tight, young and vibrant red, with a pure, focused core of dried berry, currant and dill, expanding and gliding through the finish, where touches of dried herb and cedar reverberate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2023.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Review Favia’s second wine is called Leviathan, and the 2010 is an attractive, soft, round, fruity red that does not have the concentration or profound perfume of its bigger siblings, but it is a lovely, seductive, fleshy wine offering lots of red and black currants, spring flowers and spice box. It is an interesting blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc that should drink well for 10-15 years.

About the Winery
Founded by Annie Favia and Andy Erickson in 2004, Leviathan’s goal is to produce the best California red wine in a given vintage drawing on vineyard sources across the state forming a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot.
Tapping into their collective 35 years of industry experience in both the field and cellar, and with stints at some of Napa Valley’s most heralded properties, this couple crafts Leviathan from the best of what California has to offer every year.
“Blending is one of the most enjoyable and most creative parts of the winemaking process,” says Andy. “Every year we are offered fruit from amazing vineyard sites, each one delivering interesting blending components from different varieties. Fitting these together like a puzzle creates Leviathan. It allows us to push the envelope, try new things, and have an outlet to give people something unique and, frankly, pretty damn delicious. What I love about Leviathan is that, if you look closely, you can pull out the nuances of the individual varieties. But the wine also has a character all its own.”
“With all of the other projects I work on, for Favia, as well as for my winemaking clients, the focus is always on producing single vineyard, site-specific wines. With Leviathan I have complete latitude to create something unique from many different parts. It is like a puzzle, and very fun and exciting. California is rich and diverse in terms of grape-growing regions, and I love working to create something that reflects the best that California has to offer.”
Leviathan is a rich, full wine with vibrant texture. Its complex flavors are derived from a unique blend and is carefully fine-tuned to create a bold, complex, enticing wine. Though this blended wine is worthy of cellaring, it can be consumed in its youth, showcasing its bright, fruit-driven character and is an incredible value relative to its peers.
