Mission Codename 1916
This is a wine that one could easily spend an entire afternoon with, getting to know its every delightful corner. Perhaps it is the 60% Monastrell fruit that inspires this sort of inquiry.
Monastrell, which is the Spanish name for ** Mourvèdre, is a red grape which grows primarily in the Rhône and Provence regions of France and the Valencia and Jumilla denominación de origens of Spain. This **Bodegas Juan Gil 2011 18 Meses Jumilla is a delectable blend of 60% Monastrell, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10%Syrah. The wine is rich, complex and fantastically delicious.
The Bodegas Juan Gil winery dates back to 1916, when the great grandfather of today’s generation of the Giminez family first grew Monastrell in the heart of Jumilla, Spain. The dry climate and high elevation of the family’s vineyards provide the perfect conditions for growing Monastrell. Situated at 2100 feet of elevation, the conditions in the winery are harsh, with limited rainfall. These conditions restrict the overall yield of the vineyard while imparting remarkable character and complexity to the wine. Soil and climate also play their important role here.
This limited-availability and small production wine is offered to you with our boldest recommendation. Enjoy this wine in good cheer - with a variety of Spanish tapas or a hearty pasta dish!
