The Bodegas Juan Gil winery dates back to 1916, when the great grandfather of today’s generation of the Giminez family first grew Monastrell in the heart of Jumilla, Spain. The dry climate and high elevation of the family’s vineyards provide the perfect conditions for growing Monastrell. Situated at 2100 feet of elevation, the conditions in the winery are harsh, with limited rainfall. These conditions restrict the overall yield of the vineyard while imparting remarkable character and complexity to the wine. Soil and climate also play their important role here.

Deepest, darkest, nearly opaque crimson at its heart, with just a hint of a lighter ruby edge.
Wonderful, heady, and right in your face upon first pour, with stewed black cherries and blackberries, slight berry bramble, sweet cedarwood shavings, espresso bean, black peppercorn, lavender, and a touch of minerality.
A beautiful balance of sweet fruit and earth, with sweet plum, blackcurrant, and boysenberry mingling with sweet tobacco leaf, limestone minerality, cocoa powder, sage, rosemary, clove, and a hint of herbal black tea.
A powerful and robust finish, with a fantastic combo of structure and sweetness that is sure to please. Throughout the finish, the minerality lingers, finally leaving you with a touch of almost burned caramel on the end of the palate.
