2012 Rudy Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc
California: Napa Valley
The Legend of Rudy
Today’s von Strasser Winery 2012 Rudy Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a welcome return for one of our favorite winemakers, Rudy von Strasser. With Rudy’s wines normally going for upwards of $100, Agent Red was once again able to wrangle a spectacular deal for our Operatives!
This wine is bright, crisp, and wonderfully refreshing, and after the winter many have had across the country, is just what you need - a lovely reminder that Spring and Summer are just around the corner. After tasting this Sauvignon Blanc, many on our tasting panel couldn’t wait to have this gem while sitting on the porch soaking up some sun. On a warm day, this wine is exactly what you’re looking for!
Better act fast, dear Operatives - at $17.50 this wine will sell out fast!
A super pale gold, nearly straw yellow, throughout the glass.
Juicy and aromatic on the nose, with green apple, honeydew, lemon zest, creamed honey, lemon flower, and a touch of jasmine.
Leading with fresh, crisp flavors of young white peach, young pear, honeydew, lemon zest, and hints of exotic fruits. These are trailed by lemongrass, lime flower, flinty minerality, and a touch of dried herbs.
Clean and refreshing, with bright flavors of citrus that slowly trail away, leaving you with notes of subtle dried herbs and minerality on the edge of the palate.
Pepper encrusted seared Ahi tuna with a sesame ginger dressing.

About the Winery
Rudy’s winemaking philosophy centers on the concept that great wines are created in the vineyard and not in the winery. His most important winemaking tool is his palate: his ability to understand and analyze each vineyard’s wine potential through the tasting of the grapes. All of the grapes used in the von Strasser label are picked at their optimum ripeness when the flavors are peaking and the tannins have become ripe and soft. Based on these harvest decisions, the correct combination of fermentation and winemaking techniques (including cold soaking, fermentation temperatures, extended maceration, aeration, and an aggressive barrel program) are employed to maximize each vineyard’s potential. The end result is wine of great extract and a tannin complex which is both huge and soft at the same time. The resultant mouth feel is often described as being “chewy”, and makes these hillside wines both approachable when young, yet also worthy of further development with age.
