Mission Briefing
Mister Prolific
Today’s Mazzocco Winery 2010 Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a truly delicious wine that was made by one of our favorite born in France winemakers, Antoine Favero. Born in the Champagne region of France, Antoine has made wine for some of California’s best artisan wineries. Having cut his teeth at Sebastiani, Gundlach Bundschu and Bartholomew Park, Antoine now oversees most of the winemaking efforts for Wilson Artisan Wineries, whose wineries include Wilson Winery, Mazzocco Sonoma, Matrix Winery, deLorimier Winery, Jaxon Keys Winery, Soda Rock Winery, Pezzi King Vineyards and St. Anne’s Crossing.
Today’s wine is a complex, richly layered, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon that shows of the best that the Dry Creek Valley has to offer. All at a price that makes the purchase of this wine a true no-brainer.
If you are a fan of Dry Creek Cabernet Sauvignon - or just a great, easy on the wallet wine - you will really love today’s wine.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Beautiful color in the glass, nearly opaque midnight crimson at its heart, with a pretty pink ruby rim at the very edge. |
---|---|
Smell: | Reduced black fruit notes of blackberry and sweet plum initially greet the nose, quickly followed by sandalwood, subtle mushroom earthiness, roasted coffee bean, black pepper, and clove. |
Taste: | A well balanced representation of the growing region, with fruit flavors of stewed black cherry, black currant, and sweet plum mingling with sweet cedarwood shavings, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate covered espresso bean, delicate pepper spice, and a touch of herbal black tea. |
Finish: | After decanting and given a chance to breathe, this wine really opens up. A long finish, well structured with light tannins, is highlighted by robust dark fruit notes and a slight hint of blueberry at the very end. |
Pairing: | Pork shoulder, slowly braised in an Asian-inspired teriyaki glaze, served with roasted root vegetables. |
