Dry Creek Valley
You’ve been asking for the return of Mantra Wines and we’ve listened! Today, we are very pleased to showcase their superb 2008 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel.
We love Dry Creek Valley Zins and today’s offering is the wine for lovers of big, bold, delicious Zinfandels. Energetic, zesty and packed with rich aromas and layers of wonderful flavors, this wine put a huge smile on our faces.
Delicious on opening, this wine is even better after some time in the decanter. Enjoy this very highly recommended wine now, but please be sure to hold a couple of bottles to enjoy with richer Fall and Winter fare.
Deep and inky, with dark burgundy hues. At the edge, a soft ring of plum color encircles the wine.
Bold yet elegant, with balanced aromas of dark plum, stewed black cherry, blackberry jam, sweet tobacco, leather, warm spice, and dark dried leaves.
Lush and layered with black currant, tobacco, black tea leaf, blackberry jam, braised plum, and softly smoky cranberry.
Extra long, with dark, extracted fruit flavors that linger slowly, giving way to earthy and sweetly spiced flavors that persist the longest.
Serve this bold and zesty wine with something equally so! We’ll be enjoying ours with spareribs with a balsamic ginger marinade.
What the Winery Says
This classic Dry Creek Zin is big, rich, and deep with flavors of raspberry, dried cherry, and black pepper supported by polished, creamy, subtle oak and a juicy acidity.

About the Winery
Mike and Lorene Kuimelis have been growing reserve designate grapes for noted wineries in the Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys of Sonoma County since the late 1970’s with roughly eighty acres under vine. They passed their enthusiasm and knowledge of wine and vineyards on to their son Mike Jr. who started the next chapter of this story by producing the first wines under the Mantra label.
The origin of Mantra Wines began with a single barrel of wine made by Mike Jr. in a garage from Mike Sr.’s grapes – one barrel led to two barrels and so forth until the popularity of the wine outpaced it’s production. At this point Mike made a decision to abandon his applications to medical school and made a business of making wine full time.
Mantra Wines is a collaborative effort between father and son – Mike Sr. grows the grapes and Mike Jr. makes the wines and runs the day-to-day operations of the small winery with his wife Dez. Our first commercial release was in 2000 with just a few hundred cases of Cabernet Sauvignon – Mantra is now distributed in over 15 states and Canada. True to our roots – we remain a boutique winery that produces hand-crafted wines of limited production levels but no longer made in the garage.
