Mission Briefing
Buona sera!
Another incredible offering from Contemassi, today’s 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG is the winery’s tippy-top wine. We are crazy about it, and we offer it to you, our Italophiles, with our boldest recommendation.
Cask-aged for 24 months and bottle-aged for another year, this wine was held back by the winery until it was perfectly ready. And, boy, is it ready! This is a classic and elegant Chianti that possesses supreme balance, wonderful flavors and heady, old world aromatics.
If you are a fan of Chianti, in this price range it doesn’t get much better than today’s delightful wine from Contemassi.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Translucent ruby at the core. At the edge, a characteristic Chianti brickish hue encircles the wine. |
---|---|
Smell: | Braised cherry, toasty sweet spice, blackberry, dusty bramble, candied hazlenut and toasted oak all meld together in wonderful harmony. |
Taste: | Bright and superbly balanced with young cherry, young blackberry and dark chocolate-covered cherry. As the wine opens, it reveals fig, dusty earth, subtle neutral oak and a very subtle and lovely hint of vineyard dust. |
Finish: | Mouthwatering and bright, with a very gradually spreading dryness. Hints of pomegranate and subtle balsamic punctuate the finish. |
Pairing: | This classic Chianti begs to be enjoyed with nearly any Italian meal. A chicken Parmesan or a hearty pasta dish would be perfect. |
