Mission Briefing

Codename:

The Mad Bomber

Mayo Family Winery 2010 Ricci Vineyard Old Vine Russian River Valley Zinfandel is a true gem for any Zinfandel lover. Opulent, rich fruit flavors and an incredibly elegant mouthfeel and finish - the best of both worlds in one bottle!

The Mayo Family only produced very limited quantities of wine each year, so we are thrilled to bring you one of their very best. Today’s wine was crafted exclusively from the Ricci Vineyard, located in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Traditionally thought of as Pinot Country, today’s wine should be proof that the RRV is capable of producing Zins of exceptional quality and class.

Please enjoy our heartiest recommendation for today’s flavor bomb of a Zin.

Tasting Profile

Look:

A super dark ruby, like a slightly grilled red grapefruit.

Smell:

Bold and brash aromatics reach straight out of the glass to say hello - this wine is not shy in the least. Rich, jammy fruit flavors are backed by lightly roasted coffee bean, fresh earth, dark baking spices, and tobacco leaf.

Taste:

A fruity Zin lover’s dream. A berry compote is joined by grilled plum and black cherry, with hints of zesty dark spice, honeyed fig, sandalwood, and European cherry licorice greeting the palate, as well.

Finish:

While opulent and bold in flavor, today’s wine has an elegant mouthfeel, with a nice blend of sweetness and structure in the finish.

Pairing:

Grilled skewers of pork tenderloin, pearl onion, red bell pepper, and pineapple, all finished with a light teriyaki glaze.
