Mission Briefing
First Growth
Today’s Chateau St. Jean 2008 Sonoma Valley Estate Vineyard Cabernet Franc is a truly extraordinary gem of a wine. We did everything that we could to secure an ample allotment, but we were only able to come away with just a handful of cases.
This fantastic Franc melds old world French winemaking sensibilities with the more modern new world American stylings of St. Jean. The Franc is a blending component of the winery’s flagship Cinq Cépages, which is an incredible wine in its own right. What a joy it is to enjoy the same Franc that is in that wine - but all on its own.
Hurry, though, there isn’t very much of this great wine left!
Tasting Profile
Look: | Deepest, darkest garnet at its heart, slowly transitioning to a lovely red ruby edge. |
---|---|
Smell: | Absolutely lovely and aromatic, with reduced dark fruit of blackberry and sweet plum, tobacco, sweetwood, dried blueberry, black pepper, and sage. |
Taste: | Well balanced and tremendously delicious, with a dark fruit compote of boysenberry, black currant, and black cherry laid overtop sweet tobacco leaf, cassis, black peppercorn, espresso bean, clove, and a touch of rosemary. |
Finish: | Long and lasting, the finish is highlighted by fantastic structure and grippy tannins. A tremendous wine done in a classic Old-World Style! |
Pairing: | With a classic French-style wine, we recommend a classic French meal of duck à l’orange. |
