Today’s Lockwood Vineyard 2009 Monterey County Grand Terroir Pinot Noir is a delightful little wine with a can’t miss price - and a Gold Medal to boot!
A recent tasting panel sampled a flight of 3 Pinots, and this was the one that had us talking. A delightful nose of braised black cherry and berry bramble gives way to flavors of dark berries, leather, and mushroomy earth. Or in other words, everything you hope for when you pop the cork on a Pinot.
Please enjoy our deepest recommendation for today’s wallet-friendly Pinot.
Homemade strawberry tart red, with slight kiss of ruby.
A delightfully aromatic nose, with braised black cherry and deep, dark berry enveloping hints of fresh summer berry bramble, black peppercorn, clove, and rich saddle leather.
A well balanced flavor profile, with hints of dark fruit, leather, earth, and spice working in perfect unison. Reduced dark berries mingle with touches of mushroomy earth, clove, sweet tobacco leaf, and grilled plum.
Approachable, well balanced, and a tremendous drinking quality for the price. A touch of earthy spice plays you out as the finish fades.
Wild mushroom risotto with flakes of prosciutto.
