Today’s Meadowcroft Wines 2011 Sonoma County Sangiovese is a delightful wine from one of our favorite winemakers: Tom Meadowcroft.
We only have a few cases left of today’s very limited-production gem, so don’t hesitate. Today’s wine is a bit of a slow burner: a bit shy at first, but once you give it a few swirls in the glass, WOW, does it open up beautifully. Black cherry, sweet tobacco leaf, and soft summer earth come together to form one killer dinner companion.
Please accept this wine with our boldest recommendation.
Tasting Profile
Look: | A beautifully inviting deep crimson in the heart of the glass. |
---|---|
Smell: | Hints of black cherry leap from the glass, clearly presenting themselves upon the first pour. After a little time in the glass, nuanced hints of dried flower petals, brown baking spices, and touches of soft earth begin to emerge. |
Taste: | A delightfully flavored Sangio, with well balanced elements of fruit, earth, and spice. Wild strawberry, Bing cherry, and soft plum are laid overtop clove, anise, cinnamon, herbal black tea, mocha, sweet tobacco leaf, and a lovely hint of mushroomy earth. |
Finish: | Soft on entry, with a lovely, velvety mouthfeel. Today’s wine has a touch of fine mouthdrying tannins, making it a beautiful wine to pair with a hearty meal. |
Pairing: | Bolognese with some shredded Fontina sprinkled overtop. |
