2013 Las Alturas Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
California: Monterey County: Santa Lucia Highlands
Wax On, Wax Off
The Wagner Family of Caymus fame also makes some of California’s most luxurious Pinot Noir at their Belle Glos winery. The 2013 Las Alturas was recently awarded 93 Points by The Wine Spectator’s James Laube, and we think he may have been a bit tough on it. The wine is astronomically good!
Dark, nearly opaque, richly-layered Pinot Noir with an intensity rarely found in CA Pinot Noir. A full-throttled CA Pinot for hedonistic drinking. Do not miss this opportunity.
This is a stunning wine to enjoy now or later. Cellar for the next few years. If you have the patience!
Dark and nearly opaque with darkest ruby hues from core to edge.
Ripe fruits abound in this very aromatic Pinot Noir. The wine leads with sun-ripe dark mixed berries and stone fruits. Underneath the fruits lie soft cedar, toasty vanilla and loamy soil.
Rich and delicious with layered flavors of stewed black fruit, dried blackberry, dried blueberry and black cherry.
This rich and elegant wine has an extraordinarily long finish. As flavors dwindle, the mouth is left slightly dry - and yearning for another long sip.
This robust Pinot would be great with something its equal. Chinese roast duck or a grilled New York with grilled mushrooms.
