Gary Franscioni is regarded as the master of Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir. Grapes from his vineyards command top dollar. No wonder, as most any wine made from these grapes are fantastic.
Today’s Pelerin 2010 Sierra Mar Vineyard Pinot Noir is a handmade wine that our tasting panel went absolutely nuts for. When they learned of our selling price, each member of the panel wanted a case or two for themselves. We’re giving you first shot at this wine, dear Operative. At 50% off, this wine is a real steal.
This Burgundyesque wine is offered to you with our giddiest recommendation. If you love great Pinot - and a great deal - you’ll flip over this wine.
Deep and dark with a brooding and nearly opaque core. At the meniscus, the wine shows off pretty dark ruby edges.
Powerful, ripe aromas leap from the glass, delivering deep smoky black cherry, loamy earth, smoked tea, black plum and black licorice, all underpinned by a dry, summer forest floor.
The powerful nose is mirrored on the palate. Flavors are deep and layered and rich - but the wine is actually quite soft and surprisingly elegant.
This wine has an extended finish that is punctuated with earthy spice and a hint of anise.
Enjoy this full-bodied Pinot Noir with something equally hearty. A cassoulet or a beef wellington would be amazing choices.
