Mission Briefing
Oh, Hendry!
We have had the great luck to be able to bring you vintage after vintage of wines from Hendry Ranch Wines. Luckier, still, to have been granted exclusive access to the winery’s remaining (limited) stock of today’s fantastic Hendry Ranch Wines 2011 Napa Valley Pinot Noir.
Today’s Pinot is a balanced, complex and juicy wine. This is saying a lot, as 2011 vintage wines have been known for their lackluster showing. Hendry made the most of the ‘11 vintage, delivering a wine that is very worthy of your attention. How did they do it? Well, for starters, the wine was grown in the winery’s unique estate vineyard… from St. George rootstock. This, coupled with the winemaking prowess of George Hendry, made for one fantastic wine.
Enjoy!
Tasting Profile
Look: | Pretty ruby hues with even coloration from core to edge. |
---|---|
Smell: | On opening, a fragrant rush of fresh cherry, cassis, wild strawberry and cranberry meld with subtle leather, spice and dry summer forest. |
Taste: | This is a layered Pinot Noir that starts with juicy high notes of wild strawberry and Bing cherry. It then reveals complexity by offering up flavors of sweet tobacco, bramble, dried forest leaves and hints of earth and spice. |
Finish: | Very full and dense with fresh fruit flavors at first. Then, as the fresh fruits begin to dwindle, flavors of dried cherry, dried cranberry, dried leather and flint emerge - and then hang about for a very long time. |
Pairing: | Enjoy this bright wine with pork loin or a glazed ham this holiday season. |
