2009 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon •Reichel Vineyard
California: Sonoma County: Alexander Valley
Ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon from a high elevation Alexander Valley vineyard in the hands of winemaker Denis Malbec (Kapscandy, Notre Vin) - a winemaker who was born at Chateau Latour. Robert Parker scored previous vintages (2006-07) 91-93 pts., and commented that the wines had 15+ years. The 2009 is young and stunning. A first-growth style wine indeed. We couldn’t resist!
“A complex Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of dark fruits, mineral and wild sage. The flavors are deep and rich, highlighted by memorable notes of briary blackberry, dark cherry, licorice, chewy tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, explosive finish. For food pairings, try this delicious wine with blue cheese, grilled vegetables, roasted duck breast, rack of lamb, and slow-cooked Beef Bourguignon.” - Score: 94 points Christopher Sawyer, Sommelier and Wine Critic
Saturated ruby. Blackness with red edges.
Black cherry, cedar, licorice, graphite, and oak toast lead the way. Grilled plums, cassis, baking spices, anise seed, leather, dust, and rosemary. A real deal, powerhouse Cab nose.
Dense and delicious. Layered with mountain fruit character. Minerals, mint, and pencil. It recalls some of Sonoma’s finest Cabernet from the mountain wineries. Condensed black fruits. Lots of muscle.
Muscles indeed, but with First Growth class and grooming. Gorgeous new French oak seasons the concentrated flavors with a lingering polish and spice.
Wonderful lamb territory with chimichurri and a side of roasted potatoes. Nothing wrong solo out of the decanter during movie night either. Whatever it may be, you have well beyond 2020 to pair it up with something!
