Mission Briefing
On the Slopes
Amongst Zinfandel producers and aficionados, Los Chamizal Vineyards is considered a special place on the vinous map. A terraced vineyard carved into the slopes of the mighty Mayacamas range in the southern Sonoma Valley, it delivers memorable Zinfandel character with instant charm, and long term potential. The fruit is hard to resist now, but there’s a level of complexity lurking within that’s noteworthy for Zinfandel. Mountain grown all the way. With ribs or served on Thanksgiving in 2017, Muscardini is a label to follow for their site expressive Sonoma Valley wines.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Dark with crimson edges. |
---|---|
Smell: | Fragrant cherries, lavender, grilled peach, berry cobbler, tarragon, and chimney smoke. An unmistakably Zinny nose. |
Taste: | Richly fruited, dense, and layered with pure Zin flavors. Berries of all sorts, exotic, and juicy. |
Finish: | Amidst the expressive fruit, there’s a smoked stone backbone that speaks of the terraced mountain origins. Never thinks of finishing sweet. Dry with a long, long flavor follow through. |
Pairing: | There’s a lot to like about pairing this up with ribs glazed in a sweet and sour bbq sauce. It’s versatile with many meals, and even likes a little chocolate on the side! |
