Mission Briefing
Rhône Calling
We’ve gotten to know the Kobler Estate wines well and, clearly, Syrah is at the heart of their operation.
Choosing to plant Syrah in a place that’s considered Pinot Noir and Chardonnay country, along the coldest edges of the Russian River Valley, was a gamble that has paid off well. Wineries like Donelan and Pax routinely gather mid-to-upper 90 point scores for their Kobler grown Syrah.
Meaty, spicy, blueberry and smoke-laced Syrah that ranks up there with the finest we’ve ever tasted from California.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Inky purple. |
---|---|
Smell: | Blueberries, bacon, and white pepper! It smells just like a French Crozes-Hermitage from the Northern Rhone Valley. Cool climate Syrah in all its glory. Alluring. Makes your mouth water - before it actually hits your mouth. |
Taste: | Black and blue fruits galore with peppery inflections and smoked meat. A very European profile. Generous fruit, but with balance and complexity. A modest 12.9% ABV doesn’t weigh down the palate with gobs of sweetness. |
Finish: | Dry and spicy with a pretty blueberry persistence and smokiness. |
Pairing: | Great potential at the table because of the cool climate balance. It’s fun to play with the savory elements and serve it up with earthy delights like mushrooms, Asian spice rubs, lentils, roasted red peppers, Italian sausages. |
