Mission Codename Blues for Montelena
The historic Chateau Montelena long-sourced fruit from today’s Blue Heron Vineyard in the heart (and heat) of the Calistoga, Napa Valley. Sempre Vive serves up a Bordeaux inspired blend from the old vineyard at a very friendly price. It’s ideal for drinking over the next five years by Operatives with Cab and friends on the mind. Master Sommelier Catherine Fallis rated it 96 points.
“Named after a Blue Heron that was lost as the property changed hands, this seductive Meritage-inspired blend of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot is beautifully balanced and complex with notes of cassis, black morello cherry, kirschwasser, strawberry jam, medjool date, fig paste, sugar cookie, vanilla bean ice cream, pink rose, moss, herbs de province, cumin, clove, glazed ham, pork rind, graphite and cigar box. It is elegant, juicy, layered and rich with a soft, supple creamy palate that showcases finely-grained tannins towards the finish.” - Catherine Fallis, Master Sommelier
