Astrale e Terra (closed)
2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Napa Valley: Atlas Peak
We couldn’t resist the cellar conditioned charms of Astrale e Terra’s 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Made in a mountain grown style that benefits from cellaring, it’s a classic Napa Valley Cab that is drinking beautifully right now, and will continue to do so for another 5+ years. Veteran winemaker Scott Harvey is known for his founding of Folie a Deux and early days at Renwood, but he really knows this vineyard well and coaxes special wine off the steep vineyard slopes. This is a great opportunity to stock up on a cellared treasure from one of the Napa Valley’s hidden gems.
Showing no signs of age on the rim, still dark and penetrating.
Astrale e Terra wines always like to breathe, and this is no exception. Black cherries, cocoa, mint, loam, anise, and toasted coconut. Give it some good swirls! It just gets better and better.
Lots of dark red fruit flavor with licorice, mint, and dusty hillside spices from the nose to the tongue. Round, deep, juicy. Classic mountain character.
Smooth and polished with lasting cocoa dust notes.
Moroccan lamb is an excellent combination because of the mountain spice component. Red meat is the best bet.
