Mission Briefing

Codename:

Crème de la Crème

We scrutinize each wine that we bring you. The tougher our tasting panel is, the better the wine that we showcase. Today’s 2010 pureCru Napa Valley Chardonnay simply took our tasting panel by storm.

Made by our best-selling winemaker Mitch Cosentino, today’s wine is a voluptuous, silky, delicious Chardonnay. Captivating from its fresh start to its silky smooth and extended finish, this wonderful wine has us smitten. Mitch Cosentino is a winemaking rockstar - and we Wine Spies are his fanatical groupies.

Enjoy this very food-friendly wine during the holidays, but be sure to keep some on hand to last you through the year. This wine is built to age and will be showing even more beautifully in the post-winter months to come.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Light golden straw yellow with perfectly even coloration from core to edge.

Smell:

Lovely aromas of toast crumbs and lemon curd lead the way. These are followed by aromas of vanilla custard, river rock, pomello and toasty vanilla. Underneath these, subtle marshmallow root and lemon zest play a supporting role.

Taste:

The wine leads with a bright Pippin apple crispness that leads to creamy lemon custard, lemon curd, yellow grapefruit and white peach. None of these flavors are particularly sweet. Instead, they convey the essences without the sweetness.

Finish:

Very long, with lemon and Pippin apple slowly giving way to slate and unsweetened toasted coconut.

Pairing:

This bright, complex wine would be a delight with a Japanese persimmon and arugula salad with chèvre and walnut.
