Mission Briefing

Codename:

Heroic Triumph

Today’s Balius Wines 2012 Reserve Block Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic, juicy Napa Cab that punches far above its weight class.

First and foremost, today’s wine delivers an exceptional drinking experience. Richly flavored, with a silken mouthfeel and well integrated tannin structure, this wine convinced us that we were drinking a $100+ Cab. And, like most big Napa Cabs, the longer we had today’s wine in the glass, the more nuanced flavors and aromas began to emerge. Today’s wine is definitely one to ponder over.

Please enjoy today’s fantastic wine by the bottle or by the case - at $24.99, you can afford both!

Tasting Profile

Look:

A substantial inky dark scarlet. The wine looks incredibly robust in the glass, with only a slight touch of light making its way through.

Smell:

A very traditional Cabernet nose, with slightly braised dark fruit flavors of plum and black cherry laid overtop dark earth, clove, saddle leather, cigar box, anise, espresso bean, and freshly ground black peppercorn.

Taste:

A massive wine, this Cab is not for the faint of heart. Grilled, slightly smoky dark fruit is framed against earth and spice. These secondary, nuanced flavors are comprised of mushroomy dark earth, sandalwood, sweet tobacco leaf, toasty dark baking spices, and pomegranate herbal black tea.

Finish:

A classic Napa Cab, today’s wine will benefit greatly from some decanting. The finish is smooth and supple, with well integrated tannins and hints of dark fruit that persist long after you’ve finished your last sip.

Pairing:

A leg of lamb, seasoned with rosemary and garlic, then slowly braised in chicken stock and white wine.
