Sauvignon Blanc
Spain: Utiel-Requena
Mission Briefing
Mejor
Today’s Bodegas Hispano Suizas 2012 Impromptu Sauvignon Blanc took our breath away. That deep golden hue, rich flavor, and fresh acidity - who crafted this magic elixir?!
The winery that produced this fantastic wine, which just happened to be rated as the Best in Spain by The Peñin Guide (the Spanish Michelin Guide), is a small passion project started by three friends. Marrying the best fruit from the Utiel-Requena region of Spain with the most modern of winemaking techniques, they’ve crafted a Sauv Blanc unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Stephen Tanzer, Robert Parker, and now The Wine Spies have been thoroughly impressed by today’s wine. Are you next?
Tasting Profile
Look: | An incredibly rich gold, with a serious depth of color. Breathtaking. |
---|---|
Smell: | Intense, near revelatory aromas leap from today’s wine. Strong hints of Meyer lemon, guava, and pineapple are joined by a beautiful touch of salty minerality that perfectly frames the weighty fruit notes. |
Taste: | Crisp and refreshing, with some serious heft as well. Fresh citrus and exotic fruit flavors mingle with lime leaf, sea salt minerality, and just a touch of subtle oak. |
Finish: | An incredible wine, with rich flavors, full acidity, and a finish that lingers and lingers. Elevates Sauvignon Blanc to another level entirely. |
Pairing: | Seafood will pair amazingly well with the minerality that streaks through today’s wine. We chose grilled octopus, served with fresh lemons and olives. |
