Beast of a Feast
Well, it’s another Peterson day, and you know what that means. Another amazing wine, from an amazing winemaker, at an amazing price.
Hands down, today’s 2011 Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah is one of the finest Petites we’ve tasted. While many expressions of the varietal can be a bit too brash and bold, today’s is almost impossibly soft. That’s not to say this isn’t a beast of a wine, but that it’s been crafted in a very elegant and restrained manner, which highlights just how flavorful the varietal can be.
Today’s offer is certain to sell out, with quite a few Agents looking to grab a case or two of today’s wine. Act fast or you’ll miss this double golden opportunity.
Tasting Profile
Look: | An inky, very dark crimson. A bit foreboding, and very telling of the serious wine to come. |
---|---|
Smell: | Lush aromatics of deep dark stone fruit and berries, intertwined with toasty sandalwood, dusty berry bramble, fresh mint, licorice, rosemary, and dried Provençal herbs. |
Taste: | A glorious and well balanced profile on today’s wine. The wine leads off with robust and deeply flavorful hints of dark berries, dark plum, and black cherry. These are laid overtop aged cedar wood, saddle leather, unsweetened dark chocolate, and a touch of eucalyptus, lavender, and dark coffee bean. |
Finish: | A super long, lingering finish with fantastic tannin structure; this wine will age well. You’ll be rewarded if you decant. |
Pairing: | Spice rubbed pork shoulder, braised in Guinness with dried cherries and sweet potatoes. |
