Clos Du Val
2012 Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Napa Valley
This is the 4th successive vintage that we’ve shown of this Napa Valley staple wine. In 2012, though, the wine has seen a jump in quality over the previous vintage. This is no surprise, since the 2012 vintage is shaping up to be one of the finest in some time.
This wine is very aromatic, very perfumed. Aromas jump from the glass to give your nose a delightful surprise of fruit, spice and oak. This portends the delicious flavors to come. And come they do. Layer upon layer of juicy fruit cascades across the palate, finishing in a softly chalky dryness with subtle cinnamon and clove that are tempered by a soft vanilla oakiness that ties it all together.
Ready to drink now. Good for years to come.
Pretty ruby hues. Wide ring of magenta at the edge. Slightly opaque core.
Bold and dense, with aromas of blackberry, black cherry and cassis that jump from the glass. As the wine opens up, clove, vanilla and toasted oak follow on.
Though lightweight at the tip of the tongue, this bold Cab quickly becomes grippy and full, bursting with dark mixed berry, cherry juice and plum flavors.
On the long finish, fruits give way to chalky spice, cocoa and black cherry liquor.
Enjoy this bold wine with a juicy prime rib. There is enough juicy fruit and acidity to cut through the fats and horseradish, refreshing the palate between bites.
