Pinot Noir
California: Sonoma County: Russian River Valley
Mission Briefing
Pinot Flow
Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley produces some of our best-selling Pinot Noir. In fact, some of the hottest, most sought after Pinot Noir producers make wine from the RRV.
Today’s wine is a second label from the Fritz Underground Winery, a Sonoma County staple and one of our favorite producers from the region. The focus of Fritz has traditionally been on estate wines from the Dry Creek Valley, but their Vino Valpredo label allows them to travel further afield. Today’s Vino Valpredo Wine Company 2013 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is a wonderful expression of the RRV.
This wine is very balanced and very easy drinking. It shows a lovely balance of bright red fruits, earthy loam, bramble and a lively hit of mixed spice. If you are looking for a Pinot Noir that everyone will love, you’ve found it in today’s wine.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Ruby red hues with glinting pink edges. |
---|---|
Smell: | Bright and fruity, loaded with cassis, cherry and pomegranate. These are followed by sweetwood, bramble and a loamy earthiness that round out the nose. |
Taste: | Fresh and bright, this people-pleasing Pinot shows off red fruit aplenty. Cherry and spice and everything nice. |
Finish: | Elegant and fresh with fruits that give way to earth and a high note of spice at the very end. |
Pairing: | This wine would be lovely with a pork loin marinated in a concoction of stewed Bing cherry, garlic and soy sauce. |
