Laurel Glen
2009 Sonoma Mountain Cabernet (Signed bottles)
Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Sonoma County: Sonoma Mountain
Mission Briefing
Signed. Sealed. Delivered!
Laurel Glen Vineyard has been included in the big leagues of great California Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards since 1981. A pure expression of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on Sonoma Mountain by Patrick Campbell - his final vintage along with new owner, Bettina Sichel, and winemaker superstar David Ramey. The wine is flat-out stunning, and the critics agree.
94 points - Wine Enthusiast, December 2012 “In years past, Laurel Glen was a cult Cabernet. They perhaps dropped the ball for a while, but this wine stages a big comeback. It’s rich and vital in black currant and mineral, with just the right touch of new oak, and it shows a sophistication not seen from the winery in years. And at this price, it’s a bargain. Drink now - 2021, as it gradually softens and sweetens.”
Tasting Profile
Look: | Inky and opaque. |
---|---|
Smell: | Cassis, cedar, graphite, toast, licorice, and dark fruit compote. |
Taste: | Lots of blackberry and licorice caressed in toasty oak. Very clear Cabernet varietal character. Deep and intense. |
Finish: | Mouth filling and tooth staining! Rich and powerful, this is still quite youthful. The fruit core is delicious, and tannins are finely grained and still very much alive. This is an epic mountain-grown Cab with another decade plus of potential. |
Pairing: | Meaty meals might be the best solution to melt some of the richness and tannins. Hard to argue with a grilled piece of beef or lamb with rosemary in the rub. |
