Mission Codename The Wild One
Rowland Tebb is back - with the best Pinot that we’ve tried from this fantastic, undercover winery. Today’s exquisite wine is the Rowland Tebb 2012 Saveria Vineyard Pinot Noir. This wine hails from a vineyard that was made famous by Lioco Winery, whose Saveria Pinot sells out almost instantly - and for $75. Trail Marker and Loma Prieta also make stunning wines from this exceptional vineyard.
The Saveria Vineyard is located only 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean, 700 feet above sea level, just outside the town of Corralitos. This vineyard is farmed by famed Santa Cruz “Grape Whisperer”, vineyard manager Prudy Foxx who has a knack for finding forgotten vineyards that have gone feral and organically bringing them back to life. An ideal temperature flux results from the constant morning and evening fog, producing delicate yet intense Pinot Noir. Planted to a mix of Clones 777, 115 and 667.
Aromas are beautifully balanced, with even helpings of Bing cherry, pomegranate, strawberry and dried cranberry against loamy earth, assorted spice, kola nut, wet fall leaves and a hint of cedar.
On the palate, bright and juicy at first, with Bing cherry, raspberry, dried cranberry and red plum, followed by forest floor, dried wild mushroom, spice box, cedar and white pepper.
This is one heck of a wine! Please don’t miss out on this wonderful wine - at a steal of a price…
